Take it too far
Performance advantages can be found everywhere. Small improvements for big bikes. And yes, a bit of obsession is part of it too. But how far is too far? Orbea’s goals, their competitors and their creative mindset keep driving them to victory again and again. And once you know how sweet success tastes, you want more and more. You become obsessed with being the best. You feel it in your heart, in your lungs, in your legs — and you recognise it in our bikes. Only if they keep perfecting the smallest details and pushing past the limits of what seems possible can they reach their big goals.
Dynamic Structure
Most of the twisting forces and lateral loads are taken up by the lower part of the frame. The head tube, down tube and chainstays resist the loads and transfer the power efficiently to the rear wheel. The more torsion-stiff the frame is here, the more power is delivered directly from your legs to the ground, and the more immediate the power transfer feels.
OMX - 830gr (M)
Orbea Monocoque X (OMX) frames rely on an exclusive combination of highly modular and high-strength carbon fibres. Prepreg carbon mats are cut with a laser to minimise material consumption and overlapping areas. In addition, the frame is carefully pre-shaped to achieve optimal compaction with as little carbon as possible. The use of a mould made entirely from expanded polystyrene (EPS) and latex inserts prevents creases and voids.
Comfort
The new Alma, for example, has thinner seatstays. Thanks to the reduced cross-section and diameter, they provide a slender support for the seat tube. The top tube, on the other hand, is particularly robust at the front near the head tube to increase torsional stiffness. But towards the rear, the top tube tapers quickly to save material and therefore weight.
The damping characteristics achieved through the carbon layup, along with the slim design of the top tube and seatstays, give the Alma a dynamic yet smooth ride feel, with the bike gliding over rough ground. The effect is subtle, but still noticeable. At the end of a hard race, exactly such a detail can be the difference between a spot on the podium and a consolation prize.
Orbea World Cup Geometry
Years of development of top-class cross-country bikes have led to the Alma’s World Cup geometry. The riding position is aggressive, fast and yet comfortable. Compared to trail geometry, which sacrifices a bit of precision for endurance, the cross-country geometry is designed for precise handling and maximum power transfer.
OC Cockpit
With the unique design of the OC head unit, spacers and stem, they’ve given Orbea’s cross-country family a completely new, integrated Look. This also includes the optional mount for the bike computer, which is compatible with all common brands via an adapter. The interplay of the OC components completes the high-end claim of these modern cross-country bikes.
Blocklock
The Acros Blocklock 164º headset limits the steering movement and prevents damage to the frame. In close collaboration with Acros, they were able to minimise the stack height and integrate the system as best as possible into the cockpit of the carbon Almas.
