The system has some advantages; it is inexpensive, reacts quickly, and works reliably until a new cable is eventually needed. The values usually range – depending on the model – between 10 and 25 cm.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eWhy are there dropper posts?\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eUphill, you can pedal more efficiently from a high saddle position. But especially when going downhill, “high-posting” is rather unfortunate. Then you have better control over your bike in a low seating position and more freedom of movement to respond to the demands of the terrain. On full-suspension bikes like enduros, DH bikes, or trail bikes, droppers are often part of the basic equipment today. However, it is also possible to retrofit them to other bicycles. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eAre dropper posts only suitable for mountain bikes?\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou mainly find droppers on MTBs, but not exclusively. They are always practical where the saddle height of a bicycle often needs to be adjusted. The more terrain a gravel bike is supposed to tackle, the more worthwhile a dropper post is here. But the \u003cstrong\u003efamily e-bike\u003c\/strong\u003e is also a good example. In many families, an e-bike with a child trailer or a cargo bike is used by both parents. In the rarest cases, however, both parents are the same height. Here, a seat clamp with a quick-release helps quite a bit, but the change is particularly easy with a dropper post!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHowever, dropper posts are also practical on a one-person bike, not just in the terrain. They quickly become popular on your city rides too, because you can simply lower the saddle and put your feet on the ground (for example, at a red light). So you no longer have to decide on the saddle height between an efficient riding height and a stable parking position. No more precarious balancing on tiptoes, saddle down, feet on the ground, and you can relax while waiting for the green light!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eWhy doesn't every bike have a dropper?\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSurely the purchase price is a good argument against a dropper post. And a few other disadvantages simply cannot be ignored, for example, they add more weight. And no matter which system lowers and extends the saddle, you have a potential source of error on the bike that also needs maintenance. High-quality models are naturally less helpful in point one, but they are usually lighter and more robust. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhen it comes to potential suitability for all kinds of bicycles, the \u003cstrong\u003ediameter\u003c\/strong\u003e also plays an important role, after all, the seat post must fit into the frame. If you set the “diameter” filter, you will see that dropper posts with diameters of \u003cstrong\u003e27.2 mm, 30.9 mm, and 31.6 mm\u003c\/strong\u003e  are available, and thus offer significantly less choice than rigid supports.
